Quebec Writers' Federation Workshops
Spring Session 2008
Develop your writing with the mentorship of an acclaimed professional writer and feedback from your peers.
Workshops take place at the QWF office, Suite 3, Atwater Library unless otherwise indicated.
TELLING TALES: FICTION IN ALL ITS FORMS
Eight Mondays, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. (March 31–May 12 - with one additional meeting to be scheduled in May)
1200 Atwater Avenue, Suite 3
Workshop leader: Ann Charney
This workshop is aimed at fiction writers with works-in-progress, who feel they can benefit from editorial feedback offered by the instructor and fellow participants. Discussion of texts will focus on character, plot, style, narrative voice, point of view, setting, and self-censorship. The goal is to provide participants with an environment that will enable them to take their writing – both short and long forms of fiction – to the next level of excellence.
Accepted participants must be prepared to submit work from the first session on, taking turns in presenting their work to the group. Each presenter will supply the group with copies of the work to be discussed.
Prospective participants must first call the QWF office to indicate their interest, then submit a short piece of writing (5 pages) preferably taken from a work-in-progress. Send it to admin@qwf.org, with the subject line “For Charney Workshop.” Deadline for submissions is March 10. Applicants will be notified about whether they have been accepted by March 20. Payment due March 25.
Ann Charney is the author of three novels and numerous short stories. Her work has been published in the US, France, Italy, Germany, as well as in Canada. She has received awards both for her fiction and non-fiction, and was recently named an Officer of French Order of Arts & Letters. Her new novel, Distantly Related to Freud, will be published by Cormorant Books in the fall of 2008.
