FILM CRITICISM WORKSHOP
NEW!
Two Friday & Saturday sessions, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.: March 14 & 15 and March 28 & 29

Interarts, 5143 Blvd. St. Laurent
Workshop leader: John Griffin

Participants will attend films, write reviews and benefit from analysis by a professional journalist in a seminar situation. Discussion will cover basic principles, reporting and reviewing, tips on how and where to publish.

John Griffin has been the film critic for the Montreal Gazette since the movies were in black and white. He is also a freelance writer, broadcaster and veteran of the rock 'n' roll wars, both as a performer and as pop music critic at The Gazette during the 1980s. In that capacity, he is believed to be the last journalist standing from the first Montreal International Jazz Festival, in 1980, to be still writing about the event every summer. He is currently thinking about writing the great Canadian novel.

Application Process: Send a cover letter introducing yourself, your CV, and samples of your writing (max 2,000 words) to: admin@qwf.org. Please write “For Film Criticism Workshop” in the subject line.

Fee: $200, payable to “QWF” (some scholarship help may be made available)

This workshop is part of a new series on writing about the arts sponsored by the Quebec Writers’ Federation, the Quebec Drama Federation and The Rover.
