This session will be invaluable for all writers, screenwriters and documentary filmmakers to learn about navigating the world of research and clearances. In this workshop we will be exploring three separate areas of research:
1. Content/Editorial Research:
- • Where to go to conduct research
- • How to approach people and organizations
- • How to find and record information
Techniques include:
- • Internet research, solving privacy and permission conundrums, gaining and securing access.
2. Visual Research: We will learn how to find the best sources of visual material – photographs, archival film, graphics, and maps. Discussion will include:
- • Expected payment for designated uses.
- • An approach to permissions and clearances to eliminate nasty surprises.
3. Lyric and Music Clearances:
- • Creative tips on how to clear music and lyrics with a budget in mind.
