MONDAYS, 6 to 8 p.m. — March 31 to May 12, with one additional meeting to be scheduled in May
Led by Ann Charney, award-winning author of novels, short stories, and non-fiction; Officer of French Order of Arts & Letters.
WRITING FOR DOCUMENTARY FILM: BENDING THE RULES OF THE GAME
MONDAYS, 8 to 10 p.m. — March 3 to April 21
Led by Paul Cowan, internationally acclaimed filmmaker, writer and cinematographer; Westray documentary won a Genie Award; feature documentary Going the Distance was nominated for an Academy Award.
THE SECRET LIFE OF POEMS
TUESDAYS, 6 to 8 p.m. — March 4 to April 22
Led by Robyn Sarah, author of seven poetry collections (most recently A Day’s Grace), as well as two collections of short stories and a book of essays of literary criticism.
STYLE, SUBSTANCE, STORYTELLING: THE ART AND SOUL OF FEATURE WRITING

Led by Peggy Curran, 25-year Gazette veteran; winner of the Norman Webster Prize for Writing, CAJ/CIDA Africa Fellowship, and the Canadians for Health Research/Sanofi-Pasteur Medal for Excellence in Health Research Journalism.
CREATIVE NON-FICTION: WHAT IS IT?

Led by William Weintraub, author of three novels and two non-fiction books; veteran writer/producer/editor for the National Film Board; has written for magazines, radio and television in Canada and Europe.
SHORT STORY: THE WRITING PROCESS
WEDNESDAYS, 8 to 10 p.m. — March 5 to April 23
Led by Mikhail Iossel, winner of the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in Literature and the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship; anthologized in Best American Short Stories and elsewhere; founding director of Summer Literary Seminars in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Nairobi, Kenya.
MAKE ’EM LAUGH: THE ART OF COMEDY WRITING
THURSDAYS, 6 to 8 p.m. — March 6 to April 24
Led by David McGimpsey, dubbed “one of Canada’s leading humorists” by Malahat Review and “the city’s funniest writer” by the Montreal Hour. A widely published poet, fiction writer and journalist; his travel writing appears frequently in The Globe and Mail and he has a regular column on sandwiches in EnRoute magazine.

Led by Will Aitken, whose critical writing has appeared in The Globe and Mail, National Post, Paris Review, Threepenny Review, MacLeans, on CBC Radio and TV, TV-Ontario, BBC Radio, National Public Radio. Author of three novels.

NEW!Arts Journalism Workshops: EVERYBODY'S A CRITIC, AND SO CAN YOU!
Four sessions on the basics of arts journalism, designed to help writers hone their critical skills and break into the media.
Sharpen your critical skills under the guidance of seasoned journalists in these four-session workshops on how to cover cultural events. Participants will attend live performances and new films, write reviews and benefit from analysis in a seminar situation. Basic principles, professional secrets, tools of the trade, tips on how and where to publish – learn from professionals in the field. Open to students and creative writers with a strong interest in the arts. We will make every effort to help you publish material from this series!
This workshop series is a collaboration between the Quebec Writers’ Federation, the Quebec Drama Federation and The Rover. Two workshops are being offered by the QWF, and two by the QDF. Click workshop title for details.
