The Words & Music Show is the QWF's literary cabaret. It takes place at the Casa del Popolo — a bar, café, restaurant and performance space at 4873 St. Laurent Blvd. — on the third Sunday of every month. The show features works by writers, poets and musicians, as well as appearances by people whose work involves language and music. Occasionally the series will also present work by other performers such as dancers, dramatists and stand-up comics. The atmosphere is informal and lively, and for the last three years it has been one of the hubs of performance literature in Canada. People from as far away as Australia have appeared in the series, and within Canada the show features writers from the West Coast, the East Coast and everywhere in between. In all cases, the objective is the same: to discover work by new writers, to present excellent work by established writers, and to instil the idea of literature as something we should expect from the popular culture and the nightlife of a great city.
