Fiction prize named "Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction"
1992
Poetry prize named "A.M. Klein Prize for Poetry"

Inauguration of the First Book award
1998
QSPELL Prizes renamed QWF Awards
1998
Non-fiction prize called "Mavis Gallant Prize for Non-fiction"
1998
Inauguration of the Translation prize
1999
First Book award named "McAuslan First Book Award"

The QWF Literary Awards

QWF holds an annual juried competition for published books by Quebec authors in five categories:

  • Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction
  • Mavis Gallant Prize for Non-Fiction
  • A. M. Klein Prize for Poetry
  • McAuslan First Book Prize
  • QWF Prize for Children's & Young Adult Literature
  • QWF Translation Prize (French and English, with target language alternating each year)

An award of $2,000 goes to the winner in each category.
